Forever Family

Six year ago today we were in China for Malia, how you have grown to be a beautiful little girl, first grade, learning how to read - you even read the entire book of green eggs and ham, doing math: subtraction & addition you even started on fractions!!! time has flown by with a blink of an eye. We are amazed at all the things you have learned and all that you do.

Forever Family ~ 3 years

Three years ago on this day we were in China, we had anxiety, anticipation and nervous but best of all happiness to be able to hold you in our arms. You have grown to be such a special little girl, talkative, learning your ABC's, you know how to write your name, a copycat to your sister, you love to dance, got the sassy little attitude a mother could not ask for.
You are so special, we love you Ava O.

Orphan Sunday

It's Orphan Sunday today and I wanted to share a little on something I looked into a while back.

There are approximately 32 provinces in China.
Malia & Ava lived in an orphanage in the Guangdong Province.
In the Guangdong Province alone, there are about 58 known orphanages.

I can't even tell you how shocked I was when I saw this map (pictured below) and realized the staggering number of orphanages and orphans, in just one province of China. Never mind the rest of the world.

We've seen our Ava's orphanage, but never got the chance to see Malia's, hopefully one day we will be able to go back for Heritage tour and show the girls a little of China. We've been called out to and touched and held onto (through the windows of those little baby rooms) by those sweet little orphans. We'll never forget the look on each of their little faces or how some sit in their cribs swaying from side to side - rocking themselves. We say a special prayer for them every single night, that they will each get a family that will love them, with all their hearts.

Because of this experience, we have a greater appreciation of the Lord's compassion and love for the orphan. We are so blessed with everything that we have!

Forever Family Day!

Five and a half year ago we brought home this precious little girl whom didn't want to be held, cuddle or even smile. She is now the most rambuncious(sp?) cuddly little girl, whom eats a full plate of food and sometimes ask many questions, learning to spell and trying very hard to read by sounding out words. She is still our little bumblebee that buzzes around nonstop. Happy Forever Family Day, Malia.

Ava Ling Olson
This is a poem for you.

On the day you were adopted
You were placed in our lives
And born into our hearts in a very special way.

We prayed for you,
We dreamed of you,
We prepared for you,
We waited for you,

And when we finally held you
For the very first time
It felt like you’d belonged to us
